NCCSALW Courtesy Visit To NYSC
The National Centre for the Control of Small Arms and Light Weapons (NCCSALW) led by its Director-General, DIG Johnson Babatunde Kokumo (Rtd), paid a courtesy visit to the Director-General of the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC),Brig Gen YD Ahmed, today 15 October 2024. During the meeting, the NCCSALW emphasized the need for stronger collaboration between critical agencies to combat the proliferation of small arms and light weapons (SALW) across the country. The Centre expressed its intent to engage and sensitize corps members on the dangers of SALW proliferation, urging them to remain vigilant and resist any involvement in such activities. Additionally, the Director-General invited the NYSC to participate in the upcoming Arms Destruction Exercise scheduled for 17 October 2024.
The DG NYSC welcomed the initiative, noting that raising awareness among the youth is vital for the progress and security of the nation. He confirmed that NYSC will work closely with the NCCSALW to establish action plans for sensitization programs across NYSC camps. Furthermore, he assured that NYSC’s Media and Public Relations departments will actively create awareness on social media to address issues related to impostors posing as agents of the NCCSALW. The DG NYSC also committed to ensuring that 50 corps members would attend the Arms Destruction Exercise to gain practical knowledge of the Centre’s objectives.
The visit concluded with a tour of the NYSC Digital Museum of Dynamic History and NYSC Radio, followed by a group photograph.
