The proliferation and illicit trafficking of Small Arms and Light Weapons (SALW) is a complex and multidimensional problem that affects nations, its people and communities in diverse ways. These include the deterioration of physical security, the undermining of development prospects, the degradation of access to and availability of social services, etc. In recent past, the society has become awashed with all calibres of Small Arms and Light Weapons which have found their way into the hands of unauthorized persons and in that process, its misapplication and misuse have become a recurring decimal which has led to series of frontages that have been opened, causing all sort of security challenges globally of which Nigeria is not an exception.
